Flannel Pajamas

Indie movie that chronicles a whole relationship in 2 hours - all the ups and downs from the first kisses to the last fights. I did wonder why they were both in therapy though - it's alluded to in one scene, but you never find out. I was hoping for something a little more upbeat, but the interactions felt much more real than say, The Break-Up. My biggest problem was that I didn't connect with the characters though - the acting was okay, but I felt like I was looking in on their lives as a voyeur, rather than feeling what they were feeling.

Monster House

Clever, computer-animated film that was scarier than expected for a "kids' flick." Plot did not go where I thought it was going at all. Wouldn't necessarily suggest it to others but not terrible either. What I would consider unknowns for the main characters (kids) - the voice acting was really good. It was also fun to try to figure out who the adult voice actors were since I had totally forgotten who was in the movie and had missed the opening credits.

UB, Episode 20: Petra-Gate

Everybody got into the quote action this week:

Marc (M.Urie) - When I die, just cremate me and sprinkle me over his body.

Amanda (B.Newton) - If I were a gay man,
I would SO tap that!

Henry (C.Gorham) - I can't believe Alexis would do this to Daniel. They're family! Even Erica Kane forgave her daughter Kendall when she slept with her fourth husband.
All My Children! - Just something I know.

Amanda (B.Newton) - Don't you judge me, you big FauxMo!

Wilhemina (V.Williams) - She's lonely!
Little Orphan Tranny needs a man.

Double Feature: Trust The Man/All The Real Girls

I enjoy M.Gyllenhaal and J.Moore's work and they are stellar here as usual. Unfortunately, the film itself felt contrived and the ending especially, bordered on farce. It didn't help that I hated both of the male characters in the film.

-------------------------------------------------------

Small-town movie with a big, big heart. The acting didn't even seem like acting - that's how much they embodied the characters. Loved Schneider and Deschanel, and saw them both in an entirely different light than what I had seen them in in the past.

Conversations With Other Women

Groundbreaking (?) way in which it was shot - split screen throughout the film. It was disconcerting and non-linear in the best possible way; on the other hand, it was also a little confusing and you couldn't quite catch everything. Felt like you were stepping into the middle of a conversation - a "slice of time" character study. HBC and AE (actors) were excellent - you really felt their internal conflict and loneliness.

I'm not sure if I could be more excited! :)

Money Talks

Thought it was going to be a funny movie, a la Rush Hour, but there was a lot of random plot going on about criminals and bad guys and shooting people. Had a few good lines, but not a big winner in my book.

Powerful story about striving for your own betterment against all the odds. Strong acting, quick moving plot. Had some depressing moments, but you continually root for the hero and his son.

Shadows In The Sun

Sweet, made-for-television-type movie - a nice afternoon diversion. Surprising that it was shot on location; sweeping Italian vistas were beautiful and sunny - made me long to visit Tuscany. Likeable actors, performances were okay. Plotline was a tiny bit forced as far as the novelist who is no longer writing and of course, he has to have a daughter/love interest for J.Jackson, but so it goes...

Stranger Than Fiction

I admit that I wasn't expecting much on this movie, but I still wanted to see it. I was pleasantly surprised; I thought it was original and daring - it reminded me a bit of Being John Malkovich without being so painfully aware of "breaking out of the box". Ferrell was unexpectedly touching and Gyllenhaal is so intriging as an actress. She really owns the scenes in which she appears and is unexpectedly beautiful in a few. Thompson and Hoffman are excellent as usual...
