Deliver Us From Eva

Fun, little movie about life and love. Both leads are endearing, even though the writing is thin and predictable.

Man of the Year

Expecting lighthearted comedy, a la Dave and was disappointed to get this dark, not-very-funny dissertation on fixing elections, and how "the jester should not become the king"? Williams was likeable, Linney had her moments, but was definitely not a fan of this film.

The Devil Wears Prada

Sadly, I can watch this movie over and over - I rented it for my 11 day vacation and watched it 3 times during that time period...2007 Tally, DVD - 16

A few favorite quotes:

M.Priestly (M.Streep) -
  • Tell Richard I saw all the pictures that he sent for that feature on the female paratroopers and they're all so deeply unattractive. Is it impossible to find a lovely, slender, female paratrooper? Am I reaching for the stars here? Not really.
  • Please bore someone else...with your questions.
  • Details of your incompetence do not interest me.
Emily (E.Blunt) -
  • You don't deserve them, I mean you eat carbs, for Chrissake!
  • I'm on this new diet. Well, I don't eat anything and when I feel like I'm about to faint I eat a cube of cheese. I'm just one stomach flu away from my goal weight.

Brain-searing visuals - like the best videogame ever. Because of the style in which it was done, it wasn't even all that shocking to see all the severed limbs, heads, etc. - although it certainly wasn't for the faint of heart, NOR was it was it appropriate for the 7 year old kid that was sitting a few rows behind me - wow, do parents have any censorship ability? It was rated R for g*d's sake.
Saw it in an IMAX theatre in the afternoon and it was surprisingly crowded and seriously, it was $11 well-spent.

p.s.

Decent independent film. Linney owns the movie - great character. Harden is harder to peg in this film - you can't quite get all the nuances and history that they have and are still friends. Grace is very good, but awkward and I suppose in the film, he's supposed to be. Open ended ending made it a little more puzzling than it gave closure.

A Good Year

Underrated character study of a British man whose life is informed by his childhood memories of Provence, France. Acting is well done by A.Finney, R.Crowe & F. Highmore (as the young Crowe). Scenery, of course, beautiful. Read the book and disappointed that they all but dropped the subplot of the mystery wine, but a small gripe nonetheless.

Double Feature: Gridiron Gang/100 Girls

Uplifting film about what a person can do to change their lives. Follows the "sport formula" of beaten down kids and how football changes everything, gives them respect for themselves and others, etc. Ensemble acting was very believable.

Netflix has this new "Watch Now" program. Let's just say that I have no idea how they decide what movies to upload into the system and also I have NO idea why I chose this movie over let's say, Coolhand Luke or Casablanca. What I can tell you is that it was one step up from a tv movie-of-the-week and about 10 steps down from American Pie. But it was pretty fun to see K.Heigl and J.Pressley 7 years ago, they looked like 10th graders.

The Tudors - April 1 on Showtime

I don't even have Showtime and I am really excited about this show. Not only does the 'historical aspect' seem really interesting - it looks as if there's a good bit of intrigue and, of course, naughty bits.

Breakin' All The Rules

The best way to describe this movie would be to say they would show this on an E! or VH1 special, "Before They Were Stars..." J.Foxx, G. Union, J. Esposito, M.Chestnut are better actors than the material in this film, but it wasn't a horrific trainwreck, just nothing spectacular.
